The transfer portal brings another top three-point shooter to Illinois Basketball

Illinois Basketball has officially removed another player from the transfer portal.

It's been a crazy offseason for the Illini. As of now, Illinois enters the 2024-25 season with two players from the Elite 8 squad we saw just a few weeks ago.

In addition to the players leaving due to age, five players have left the program, including Niccolo Moretti, Luke Goode, Dain Dainja, Amani Hansberry and Sencire Harris.

Brad Underwood has also done a great job pulling talent out of the transfer portal. Illinois' new additions to the transfer portal include Tre White, Kylan Boswell, Carey Booth and Jake Davis.

They can now add another player to the new additions for the Orange and Blue. It was announced on social media Tuesday that Illinois has signed transfer portal forward Ben Humrichous.

A graduate of Tipton High School in Indiana, Humrichous was mentored by many programs. He chose Huntington University from the NAIA ranks as his landing spot. Humrichous then moved to Evansville, where his game began to blossom.

In the 2023–24 season, Humrichous played 24 games for the Aces and averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He also made 5.3 three-point attempts per contest and knocked them down at a rate of 41.3%.

While Illinois has been able to combat transfer portal exits with new additions, we are still not a very strong team heading into the 2024-25 season. However, Humrichous helps.

I love the size of Humrichous. He comes into the Illinois program at 6-foot-9 and should be able to bang around on defense. The key to his game, however, is the ability to stretch the floor.

Humrichous can get out and shoot the three-point shot. This forces defenders to cover him and makes the lanes less congested. He will also provide the Illini with some great shooting in the second unit.

I'll likely use Carey Booth as the primary replacement for Morez Johnson Jr. Humrichous can slot in at No. 4 behind Ty Rodgers. Off the bench, Illinois has Humrichous as a 41.3 percent three-point shooter. He will join Davis, who shot 38.7% from three-point range last season, on the second unit.

Illinois' second unit just got dirty. Humrichous brings a ton of shooting talent to the team and I can't wait to see what our reserves do in 2024-25.
