Mega Millions player wins big in California. Where was the winning ticket sold?

A Mega Millions ticket sold in California won $392,000, narrowly missing the $257 million jackpot, lottery officials say.

The ticket matched five winning numbers in the drawing on Tuesday, April 30, but not the Mega Ball, the California Lottery said.

No one won the top prize, which rises to an estimated $284 million in the next drawing on Friday, May 3, with a cash option of about $128 million, the national Mega Millions website said.

The winning numbers were 10, 18, 27, 37 and 61, with a Mega Ball of 5.

The ticket, valued at $392,000, was sold at a liquor store in Long Beach, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

More than 111,000 other tickets sold in California also won prizes ranging from $2 to $54,000 in the drawing, the lottery said.

Mega Millions tickets sold in Mississippi and New York also matched five white numbers to win.

To win a Mega Millions jackpot, a player must hit all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball.

The chance of winning a jackpot is 1 in 302,575,350.

Tickets are $2 and can be purchased the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.

Drawings take place on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, DC and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
