A pioneering North Carolina seafood purveyor is poised to open its massive new seafood market in Raleigh

A massive seafood market opens in Raleigh next month that will make the coast seem closer than ever.

Local seafood will open its 10,000-square-foot seafood market, which will host a grand opening event on Saturday, May 18.

The rise of Locals Seafood 14 years ago has helped make North Carolina's coastal offerings more accessible to Triangle guests both in restaurants and at home. owner Lin Peterson And Ryan Speckman started the business by traveling to the coast twice a week and selling seasonal seafood from the back of a pickup truck.

Now the locals are revealing one of the states largest fish markets in the interiorin a new building 1408 Corporation Pkwy in East Raleigh. The market is initially only open two days a week, Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m

Half a ton of seafood per week

“Our new location in East Raleigh is a game changer,” Speckman said in a press release. “The secret to our success is our hyperfocus on the supply chain. We are obsessed with ensuring the best possible care once our treasured resource emerges from the water. We are now able to process more seafood as close to the consumer as possible to ensure maximum freshness and quality.”

The local population expects a cleanup half a ton of seafood every week in the new branch, with a focus on whole fish slaughterhouse.

“Having a seafood processing facility further inland in the Triangle is actually a huge benefit to consumers,” Peterson said in a news release. “We are excited to open our doors to the public. We believe this facility can serve as a flagship for North Carolina’s seafood industry.”

When Peterson and Speckman announced the new market in 2022, it also meant closing Locally owned oyster bar in Raleigh, one of the cornerstone pieces of the Transfer Co. Food Hall.

However, Locals Oyster Bar lives on Durham Food Hall as a restaurant and fish market.

Residents originally planned to create a restaurant component as part of the new market, but those plans fell through seem to be on ice.

Locals will help out at a new restaurant in Raleigh, Mala Pataa collaboration with burrito artisans Ex-VotoOpening planned Gateway Plaza.

Opening details

  • Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m

  • Customers who spend $100 will receive a free Locals t-shirt.

  • The opening event will include cooking demonstrations on how to shuck an oyster, fillet a fish, clean a soft-shell crab and devein a shrimp.
