No. 14 Florida State softball falls short in extra-inning rally against No. 9 Florida

Allison Royalty started in the regular season finale in Tallahassee against the No. 9 Florida Gators. The senior got off to a solid start, shoring up her defense for two outs. A walk-in, single and stolen base caused difficulties for the royal family to navigate. Another single followed by an error gave UF two runs early.

Keegan Rothrock started for the Gators after not starting against the FSU lineup in the previous game. After making the error early in the innings, Kaley Mudge tripled at the start. According to Mudge, Jaysoni Beachum equalized the game with one swing of the bat. The 2-run shot at dead center erased Florida's lead.

2-2 entering the 2nd inning, the Royals led a batter with one out. An error and a single broke the tie and gave Florida the lead back. A wild pitch and another walk by Royalty resulted in two runners executing a pitch change. Ashtyn Danley came into the game in relief and managed an out and a run on her first batter.

4-2 down in the frame, Amaya Ross tripled with one out. Ross was brought home on a sacrifice fly to take the UF lead.

Danley went scoreless in the third despite putting a pair on base. Moving into the home half, a leadoff solo home run by Kalei Harding got things sorted out again.

The scoring didn't stop in the 4th inning when a single up the middle gave the Gators the go-ahead run. A double drive got Florida going and a 2-run shot from Danley extended the lead.

Florida maintained its three-run lead into the next inning, where they started with a walk from reliever Emma Wilson. Two walks and a pitch hit from Wilson quickly loaded the bases. Without outs, Mimi Gooden became the third pitcher for FSU and saw two runs on a single.

A double steal left more runners threatening and two sacrifice flies added two more runs as Gooden escaped the fifth run and her team found itself trailing 11-4.

A single from Edenfield in the bottom of the 7th got a rally going. Dack followed with a one-out single of his own and a walk to Ross loaded the bases. Mudge's single added a run and made it 13-8.

Florida switched from Brown back to Rothrock, but it didn't matter much to the hitters as Beachum reached on an error and drove in two more runs.

Two runners on base and three runs to tie the game was the perfect situation for Hariding, who completely destroyed a pitch from Rothrock and tied the game at 13-13.

With Gooden still facing Rothrock in the 8th, neither team was able to reach base as both pitchers had 1-2-3 innings. In the 9th, a one-out solo home run from Florida broke the tie. She still stuck with Gooden and had two walks and a single with one out.
