Service dog taken in SUV from Orlando hotel in nearby apartment complex

An SUV with a service dog was stolen from a hotel near SeaWorld Orlando on Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Hours later, the dog, named Thor, was found near the hotel.

Officials said a gray 2009 Kia Sorento with Thor inside was stolen from the Hilton Garden Inn Orlando on Westwood Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. While the SUV was not immediately recovered, Thor was found walking around a nearby apartment complex.

“Someone who saw him called our detective after seeing our social media post,” the sheriff’s office said in a tweet. “Thor is now reunited with his very grateful human!”

“I'm assuming he just kept barking and they eventually got tired and let him out,” Thor's owner Gloria said.

She said she parked her car at the Hilton Garden Inn Orlando near SeaWorld to finish a quick work assignment. She left the car running to keep Thor cool, but when she came out…it was gone…and so was Thor.

I literally wasn't in there for more than five minutes. When I got back my car was gone and I started freaking out.

She started screaming for Thor and eventually called 911.

A few hours later, the sheriff's office posted a warning on social media, along with pictures of Thor. Shortly thereafter, someone spotted Thor at the Vista Cay Resort and called the detective on the case.

Thor and Gloria were then reunited.

“He seemed a little overheated, but he's black so the sun gets to him very quickly. But he was excited to finally see me,” she said. “I just want to say a big thank you. You have no idea how much you saved me!”

Gloria said the SUV was still missing, but she was just grateful to have Thor back.

The sheriff's office later tweeted: “We would like to thank our community for your help in Thor's quick and safe recovery.”

The missing vehicle's Florida license plate is LEXH94 and has damage to the rear and peeling paint on the hood.
