Julia Gagnon of Maine is asking trolls to stop the online hate

This makes me love American Idol No. 4 contestant Julia Gagnon from Maine even more.

When we interviewed Julia Gagnon before the top ten were selected, one of the things she emphasized was how close the contestants were to each other. She referred to them as her “family” more than once. Julia is now in the top 7 and is moving on to the next round and had to address the haters on Instagram.

Julia said that for her it was not hate, but rather that she beat up every participant who got out of control. Central Maine pointed out that she suggested another way,

Just spread love, it's easy to spread love, and if someone doesn't care about you, if you don't like their achievements, you don't have to say it, just support the people you love.

Julia is light and funny and very, very talented. She also struggled with bullying at school, which caused her to bury and hide her talent. She knows how to deal with internet trolls.

Fight hate with humor

Julia Gagnon and another Idol contestant, Abi Carter, made a hilarious video in which they tried to make each other “spit” by reading hateful comments about each other. It's a great way to spread the comments AND point out completely wrong behavior. Unfortunately, one comment was completely absurd and racist.

Why are there people on American Idol who aren't American?

Wow. Yes, Julia Gagnon was born in Guatemala, but she is an American citizen and was adopted when she was two years old and grew up here in Maine.

Hopefully she'll be laughing all the way until she becomes the next American Idol! Julia, keep laughing, smiling and singing your heart out.
