Gusty winds, flooding are possible for North Texas with Thursday's storms

NORTH TEXAS – CBS News Texas meteorologists have issued a weather advisory for today.

As we move through this Thursday morning, showers and storms will continue to move east through North Texas. Some storms can be strong, producing gusty winds and heavy rain. Flooding is also a problem today.

In fact, a flood warning remains in effect for parts of North Texas through this afternoon. Between 5 and 10 centimeters of rain fell in some communities under observation. Remember: turn around, don't drown! The Metroplex is currently not included in the watch.

Our weather will calm down a bit this morning, but don't be discouraged. We're alerting you to a few more strong storms that could develop tonight as a disturbance moves across North Texas. If storms develop, damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain could occur. Some of our forecast models suggest storms are possible after midnight into early Friday morning. We will follow them closely.

Otherwise, mostly cloudy skies can be expected. Highs will be in the low 80s. Lows will be in the mid 60s overnight.

A few early morning showers and isolated storms are possible on Friday. Otherwise, there will be mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the lower 80s.

The chance of rain will increase again this weekend. Even if we don't expect a complete shutdown, we should still make a backup plan for any outdoor activities you may have planned.

On Saturday we will experience some widespread showers and storms. The chance of storms increases late Saturday evening. Some storms could cause heavy rain and localized flooding. Highs will be in the low 80s.

Showers and storms are expected for Cinco de Mayo this Sunday, particularly in the morning into early afternoon. But there will likely be a few more showers later this evening. Otherwise, we will see cloudy skies with highs in the upper 70s.

Highs will be around 90 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
