Utah woman arrested on murder charges after shooting boyfriend as part of suicide pact

A 21-year-old Utah woman was arrested on suspicion of murder after her friend was shot as part of a suicide pact between the two.

Utah County Sheriff's Jail records viewed by PEOPLE show Heavenly Faith Garfield was arrested April 30 and is charged with murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. According to the documents, she was arraigned on May 1 and held without bail.

According to local media KUTV, the Associated Press and CBS News, a probable cause affidavit said Garfield's father called 911 to report the shooting shortly before 3:30 p.m. local time on April 30. The documents say his daughter shot the 21-year-old victim, whose name was not released, at 10:45 a.m

The friends reportedly discussed the suicide pact for several weeks, family members said, according to the affidavit, according to the AP.

The document claimed a friend of the victim showed police text messages in which she said she wanted to die but was too scared to kill herself. According to the AP, the friend also confirmed to police Garfield's suicide pact with the victim.

The friend told officers that Garfield and the victim had planned for one of them to kill the other and then himself, according to KUTV.

The outlet also reported that the documents state that investigators discovered a 9mm bullet near the victim's body at a home in Saratoga Springs, where she was found dead.

Saratoga Springs police and the Utah County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
