Investigators recovered three handguns at the scene of the double murder in Trenton

Two men were killed in a parking lot in Trenton on Wednesday evening and authorities said the fatal shooting is currently being investigated by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department.

The incident occurred on the night of May 1, 2024 at around 7:45 p.m. Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation indicating multiple shots were fired in the area of ​​Prospect Street and Pennington Avenue. When police arrived, they found two male victims at the scene.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri, a victim, identified as Chevaughn Fagan, 28, of Trenton, was discovered in the side parking lot of 812 Prospect Street after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

A spokesman for Onofri said the second victim, Jerome Francis, 43, of Hamilton, was found with gunshot wounds to the chest in the driver's seat of a blue Infiniti QX60 in the same parking lot.

The vehicle showed significant damage to the front section and several airbags deployed. At the crime scene, investigators recovered three handguns, two cell phones and several bullet casings.

Both Fagan and Francis were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

On December 9, 2016, Fagan negotiated a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to various weapons charges that could have forced him to be deported as a non-citizen. It is not clear why he remained in the country.
