TRENTON – May began with tragedy in the capital.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri's office, police responded to a ShotSpotter activation near Prospect Street and Pennington Ave on Wednesday evening around 7:45 p.m.

Officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a building in the 800 block of Prospect St. He was later identified as 28-year-old Chevaughn Fagan of Trenton.

In the same parking lot, police found another victim with gunshot wounds to the chest in the driver's seat of a blue Infiniti QX60. That man was identified as Jerome Francis, 43, of Hamilton.

The Infiniti had severe front damage and multiple airbags deployed.

Prosecutors said investigators found three handguns, two cellphones and several bullet casings while examining the crime scene.

Both victims were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where they were later pronounced dead.
