The California rodeo action continues in Lakeside

While the world revolves around rodeo, the mecca moves across the United States year-round. The rodeo world takes place in California in April and early May.

There is a lot of money to be won in the West during this time and athletes are taking advantage of it.

One of the most recent meetings took place April 25-28 in Lakeside, California. With a total payout of $123,490, a good showing at Lakeside could certainly improve the athletes' rankings.

Former Wrangler National Finals rodeo qualifier Dean Thompson, currently ranked No. 6 in the world for bareback riding, took the win. The cowboy from Altamont, Utah had a blast. Not only did he earn $4,371 for taking Sumthin Sue from Western Rodeos in Lakeside to 87 points, but the cowboy also recently won Mercedes, Texas, Montgomery, Alabama, and Tucson, Arizona.

With an incredible $58,864, Thompson is paving a solid path to his second NFR qualification in 2024.

25-year-old cowboy Bridger Anderson of Carrington, N.D., secured victory in steer wrestling. Anderson dropped his wheel in 4.9 seconds and banked $2,443 for his bet. While his year probably hasn't started the way he would have liked, he is a two-time NFR qualifier and has plenty of experience. As the summer season begins, this man knows how to turn a season around and should expect to break into the standings soon.

Kade Bruno has started a nice 2024 saddle bronc riding season. He is currently ranked 8th in the world with $54,340. The Challis, Idaho man teamed up with Western Rodeo's Hippy Mountain and finished at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 85.5.

The action continues in California in the coming weeks with rodeos such as Stonyford, Riverdale and Woodlake. The top 50 cowboys and cowgirls will head to various parts of the United States for the summer run.
