F1 Miami Grand Prix 2024: Predictions, odds, betting tips and best bets for the race

The 2024 Formula 1 World Championship season is approaching its sixth racing weekend as the 20 drivers travel to Florida in the US for the third edition of the Miami Grand Prix.

After comfortable victories in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia for three-time world champion Max Verstappen, Red Bull's Flying Dutchman retired from the Australian Grand Prix after just three laps because the brakes failed and he missed the chance to use his good lead to expand 2024 points count.

The three-time world champion may have missed the podium – and even the checkered flag itself – in Australia due to a brake failure, but he has since returned to business as usual in the two races.

The Suzuka International Racing Course was tamed by Verstappen, defeating both his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. He also made light work of the first Chinese Grand Prix in five years, recording his fourth race victory five attempts to build a clear lead at the top of the drivers' standings.

It was certainly a mixed weekend for Lewis Hamilton, who, despite his second place in the sprint before Saturday's race, failed to get the Mercedes veteran out of Q2 in qualifying. He started from 18th place on the grid and ended up with a good performance in ninth place. Mercedes will be hoping Hamilton and teammate George Russell can get back to form quickly enough to chase Red Bull and Ferrari in the constructors' championship.

The first two races of the Miami Grand Prix were both won by Verstappen, but as it is only the third F1 World Championship race ever to be held at the Miami International Autodome, we can still look forward to plenty of unpredictability.

Odds of winning the 2024 F1 Miami Grand Prix

After returning to top form with dominant victories in Japan and China, it's no surprise that Max Verstappen is leading the way as favorites for this weekend's Miami Grand Prix. Can he take five of his six wins so far in 2024?

There's a big gap between Verstappen's -550 moneyline tilt and the +800 of Sergio Perez, his Red Bull teammate, with BetMGM suggesting the Dutchman is on track for another big win at the Miami International Autodome to be recorded. Perez and his pursuers, whose chances are increasing with every race, have their hands full this weekend to stop Verstappen.

BetMGM then gives us a three-way tie of favorites for this race, with Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both in line at +1600 odds, alongside McLaren's Lando Norris. Fernando Alonso is the sixth favorite after a mixed performance in Shanghai where he finished seventh but set the fastest lap of the race.

Mercedes duo George Russell and Lewis Hamilton have both had a very mixed start to the 2024 season, with neither of them really being able to come close to the out-of-control Red Bull and Ferrari units so far. They each have odds of +4000, while Oscar Piastri is at +5000, before the odds increase exponentially from Lance Stroll and Nico H├╝lkenberg onwards.

F1 Miami Grand Prix 2024: Best bet

  • Choose: Both Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc finish in the top three places.
  • Moneyline Lean: +230 (BetMGM)

With Verstappen the overwhelming favorite to win another race in Miami in 2024, the order of the field behind him is quite interesting. Perez and Leclerc are the Dutchman's closest rivals in the Drivers' World Championship so far, and with Verstappen already 25 points ahead of his Red Bull team-mate after just five races, Perez in particular will be keen to narrow the gap.

Leclerc has edged out Verstappen twice so far this season, albeit only by outpacing the defending champion with the fastest lap in both Saudi Arabia and Australia. Since he and Perez are once again the best of each other, BetMGM's +230 moneyline that both will finish on the podium seems like a safe bet.

F1 Miami Grand Prix 2024: Prop bet

  • Choose: Fernando Alonso sets the fastest lap of the race
  • Moneyline Lean: +2500 (DraftKings)

This is considered far-fetched, but after veteran and former world champion Alonso finished third in qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix and set the fastest lap of the actual race despite a seventh-place finish, DraftKings' +2500 money line is certainly supported then one that is worth tackling.

He became the first driver alongside Verstappen or Leclerc to set the fastest lap in a race so far this season, and his performance last time out, as well as a third place at the Miami Grand Prix last year, suggests that may be the case could be an offer that is just too good to pass up.

F1 Miami Grand Prix 2024: Flying bet

  • Choose: Verstappen achieves the fastest speed at the Miami Grand Prix Sprint Challenge
  • Moneyline Lean: +550 (DraftKings)

Considering he has won both previous editions of the Miami Grand Prix and set the fastest lap of the race in each, it is somewhat strange that Verstappen is only the second favorite in the sprint challenge taking place that day the highest speed on the track is reached before the actual race.

Instead, Aston Martin's Lance Stroll was tipped to be the favorite for top speed in this event, making Verstappen's longer odds at a +550 moneyline on DraftKings a proposition that's definitely worth a shot – he is the one in almost all cases Favorite other category!
