Caitlin Clark set a few more records on her way out Sunday afternoon.

The Iowa Hawkeyes' star erupted during the first quarter of their national championship game against South Carolina on Sunday. Clark scored 18 points in the first 10 minutes of the game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, thanks to a hard-fought 3-pointer against Gamecocks star Kamilla Cardoso in the final minute that marked the most points ever by a player in one Game scored in single quarter of a championship game.

This basket also set the all-time NCAA women's tournament record. Clark passed both Maya Moore and Chamique Holdsclaw – who previously held the all-time record with 479 career tournament points – on the points list.

Clark entered the game just 17 points shy of Holdsclaw's record, which she set in the 1990s when she won three straight national titles with Tennessee. Clark led the country with 31.7 points per game this season, and in the tournament that began Sunday she averaged 30 points per game, putting the record within reach.

Clark's first quarter even caught the attention of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Clark set a single-tournament record last season and led the Hawkeyes to the championship game, where they fell to Angel Reese and LSU. Clark scored 196 points in six games last year, including 40 straight points. She then led the Hawkeyes back to the national title game this season after defeating both LSU in the Elite Eight and UConn in the Final Four. The Hawkeyes are also responsible for South Carolina's only loss in the last two seasons after defeating the Gamecocks in the Final Four last year.

Clark, who became the NCAA men's and women's all-time leading scorer earlier this season while also earning National Player of the Year honors, is a certain No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Draft later this year chosen month.

She finished the first quarter with 18 points and shot 5 of 8 from the field, giving the Hawkeyes a 27-20 lead. However, Clark was only held to three points in the second quarter and the Gamecocks took a 49-46 lead at halftime.

As they have done so many times this season, the Gamecocks shot into the lead in the second half. They pulled ahead late and earned an 87-75 victory over the Hawkeyes, giving head coach Dawn Staley her third national title with the program. Clark finished with 30 points in her final college game.
