Rescue workers rush to airport as chaos causes delays to other flights

A Virgin Atlantic flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Edinburgh today, causing chaos and delays for other flights.

Because the aircraft's tire pressure was too low, emergency services had to be alerted to pick up flight VS226 from Orlando, Florida, at Edinburgh Airport.

When the plane touched down on the runway at 11:20 a.m., numerous ambulances and firefighters surrounded the plane.

Flight crew reportedly feared that the puncture would cause the wheel to break through the metal, The Mirror reported.

Other flights were delayed during the suspension, but the airport says they have now resumed.

The airline said Edinburgh Airport had requested emergency services to collect the aircraft as a precautionary measure.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesman said: “As a precautionary measure, we have asked engineers to attend our flight VS226 from Orlando to Edinburgh after landing as the nose gear tire pressure was too low.”

“The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and the aircraft landed as usual.”

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “Our teams have been alerted to an issue with the incoming Virgin Atlantic flight and have initiated normal response procedures as a precautionary measure.”

“The flight landed and was picked up by emergency vehicles. It has now left the runway and operations have resumed.”
