LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Women's Tennis has signed Hailey Murphy, who comes from the University of Montana, to play for the Scarlet & Black, the head coach announced Adam Herendeen Saturday morning.

“We are thrilled that Hailey has decided to join the Red Raiders! Her progress over the past few years has been remarkable and it shows in her results at the top of the lineup. From the moment she arrived on campus, we knew Hailey would be a perfect fit for the team and we are really excited about the team we have for next season!” said Herendeen.

Murphy is coming off her breakout sophomore year with the Grizzlies, playing primarily first-place singles for Montana. The Calgary, Alberta native helped the team to a Big Sky regular season title as the Grizzlies went 6-2 in conference play. During that time, Murphy compiled an undefeated singles record at first, where she went 8-0 in Big Sky play and earned unanimous Big Sky MVP and All-Big Sky Singles First Team honors. She boasted an overall singles record of 22-5 with a doubles record of 16-3 this season. In addition, she went 12-1 at first and 4-2 at second, finishing her sophomore year with a 10-match winning streak.

In doubles, Murphy earned 11 total wins, seven of which came in doubles matches. Playing primarily at the number one doubles spot, she collected seven wins at that position and posted a 4-4 record in Big Sky play, earning her a name to the All-Big Sky Doubles Second Team.

In the fall, Murphy had a great performance in the singles second leg of the ITA Mountain Regionals, advancing to the semifinals with wins over players from Wyoming, Colorado, Utah State and Utah without dropping a set. In the doubles main event of the Regionals, Murphy advanced to the round of 16 after picking up wins over teams from Utah (8-5) and Air Force (8-4). In the spring, Murphy was named Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time after helping Montana to undefeated singles wins over Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.

In her freshman season, the Academic All-Big Sky selection went 16-14 overall in singles, playing most of her matches at third, where she picked up five wins and two more at second. In doubles, she totaled 13 wins and had a 5-2 conference doubles record, earning her honorable mention All-Big Sky Doubles. She played primarily at third in doubles, posting an 8-2 record at that position.

Murphy will join the Lady Raiders as a junior and will then have two years of eligibility.
