Whether gold or pride: a peach is not just a peach

TRENTON, SC (WJBF) – In Trenton, the peach is peach-colored and is celebrated

“They just scream summer and we are proud of the peaches here in Trenton, South Carolina,” said Shari Huiet.

However, a peach is not just a peach; there are dozens of different varieties.

“Yes, there are many variations,” said Billy Powell.

“There are different names on it.”

“They have white peaches. I don't know all the names, but there are different kinds,” Billy said.

Look at the list of peach varieties: There is a peach called Clemson Pride, which competes with a peach called Carolina Gold.

“So who do you like? Clemson Pride or Carolina Gold?”

“I was allowed to go to Clemson because our daughter graduated there,” Shari said.

“The Gamecocks: Carolina Gold,” said Kara Harsey.

“Have you ever had this before?”

“Probably, I don't know,” Kara said.

“Clemson is an agricultural school; you have to accept that,” said Bill Bengtson.

“Neither. Georgia Bulldogs! Go Dawgs,” Laura Tinney said.

“There are no Dawgs Peaches!”

So, ignoring Dawg peaches, which one do the experts think is best?

“Carolina Gold. To me, it's more of a sweeter peach. The Clemson ones are a little prettier, but the Carolina Gold ones taste much better,” said Jocelyn Temples, manager of Sara's Peach Stand.

Carolina takes gold, and that might hurt Clemson's pride a little.
