Gordon Ramsay is “lucky to be here” after having a “really bad” bike accident in Connecticut.

“This week I unfortunately had a really bad accident that really shook me up,” the Hell's Kitchen host said in a video posted on social media.

The celebrity chef did not reveal many details about the accident, but said he was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and thanked the “incredible trauma surgeons, doctors (and) nurses” who cared for him. In the video, he lifted his chef's jacket to show a dark purple bruise on his side.

Ramsay has a restaurant in Connecticut, Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen Foxwoods. He was also in the area over Memorial Day weekend, which included a trip to Watch Hill in Rhode Island.

Gordon Ramsay: “Wear a helmet”

Ramsay, who said he was “in pain” after the “brutal” week, also turned his update into a PSA about the importance of wearing a helmet, telling his followers he “wouldn't be here” if he didn't have one. He shared photos from before and after the accident, the latter showing his dented helmet.

“You have to wear a helmet,” Ramsay stressed. “I don't care how short the ride is. I don't care that these helmets cost money. But they are essential.”

He added that it was important that children also wear helmets.

Ramsay's message came after Nina Dobrev, 35, said last month she was injured in a bicycle accident. On Instagram, the “Vampire Diaries” star shared before-and-after photos, the first showing her on an e-bike and the second in the hospital. “How it started vs. how it continues,” she captioned the post.

Dobrev also wrote in an Instagram story at the time: “I'm fine, but the road to recovery will be long.”
