According to a new study from Florida, there are two of the hottest cities in the job market for college graduates. LinkedIn.

The analysis recently published by LinkedIn provided a ranking 10 cities with the highest year-over-year change in share of new hires. Tallahassee and Gainesville rank second and third on the list, respectively.

Tucson, Arizona, was ranked as the up-and-coming city for college graduates. However, Tucson was the only western U.S. city to make the top 10. Six of the top 10 came from the southeastern states. Des Moines, Iowa (#6), Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (#8), and Hartford, Connecticut (#10) were the northern cities in the top 10.

The LinkedIn study found that Tallahassee's hiring rate increased 14.1% from 2022 to 2023. Tallahassee was also a prime location for government jobs, a natural consequence of its location as the state capital.

In Gainesville, the share of new hires increased by 11.7% between 2022 and 2023 compared to the previous year. Gainesville was ranked highly due to its large supply of educational jobs for young professionals in the hometown of the University of Florida and Santa Fe College.

Tallahassee and Gainesville's job markets also received high ratings for certain job sectors. Education was ranked as the best industry for college graduates, with this sector seeing a 15.3% increase in hiring of college graduates with bachelor's degrees, according to LinkedIn data. Teachers and admissions counselors were the most in-demand occupations in this field.

Government administration ranked second on this list of fastest-growing industries. This sector saw a 14.4% increase in hiring across the U.S. between 2022 and 2023, with police officer and administrative assistant positions leading the way.

Two other Sun Belt cities rounded out the top five best cities for college graduates to start their careers. Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Savannah, Georgia, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. They were both highly rated due to the availability of manufacturing jobs in both of these labor markets.

According to LinkedIn's findings, jobs in construction, consumer services and financial services are among the five industries with the largest growth for college graduates.

LinkedIn prepared the report based on the analysis of its researchers, who reviewed posts on the LinkedIn platform and examined the network's members and their profile information as well as job postings.
