FSU baseball falls to No. 1 Tennessee in College World Series

Florida State's baseball season is over after being eliminated 7-2 by No. 1 Tennessee (58-12) in the semifinals of the 2024 College World Series.

The Volunteers advance to the championship series, which begins Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Charles Schwab Field, facing either Florida or Texas A&M.

The Seminoles struggled to penetrate Tennessee's defense with Zander Sechrist on the mound. FSU went six straight scoreless innings.

Tennessee got off to an early start, taking a 3-0 lead in the opening inning. Rookie pitcher John Abraham was replaced in the third inning. Brennan Oxford and Joe Charles took over in the bullpen.

Charles pitched a personal best of 4.2 innings with five strikeouts. Conner Whittaker finished the game as closer for the Seminoles.

The Seminoles finally answered with back-to-back home runs by Daniel Cantu and Alex Lodise in the bottom of the seventh inning to increase UT's lead to 6-2. Max Williams led the Seminoles with two of FSU's seven hits.

Blake Burke responded with a solo home run of his own to extend Tennessee's lead. FSU did not concede a score in the final two innings.

After finishing last in the ACC, FSU was able to turn the season around in a single season, finishing 49-17 and reaching the CWS semifinals for the first time since 2012 in Link Jarrett's second year as head coach.
