Growler Country moves from Capital Circle after a decade

After 10 years, popular bar and craft beer destination Growler Country is closing its original location in northeast Tallahassee and will relocate.

“We're not saying we're closing. We're taking a break,” co-owner Mario Fernandez told the Tallahassee Democrat in an interview about the restaurant's move to new premises. The doors at the 3305 Capital Circle NE location will close on Sunday, June 23.

The store was a popular hangout for gaming parties, had a generous selection of craft beers, and was known for its popular Cuban sandwich.

Now, Growler Country's owners say two new locations are planned, one near Capital Circle and another on Killearn Plaza Lane, coupled with what they're calling a “Jurassic Pizza Y'all” pizza concept.

The first location, whose exact location he declined to disclose, is set to open in the next few weeks on an empty lot, using trucks as kitchens to host a traditional, Munich-inspired outdoor beer garden and an indoor tavern & grill in a hangar-like building.

A press release said new features will include “plenty of parking, special areas for families and rotating entertainment.” Using an empty lot will help the concept save money and expand if needed, Fernandez said.

“We wouldn't have to build a kitchen and, you know, this and that. We'd just have food trucks and then a building,” Fernandez said. “It doesn't meet all the requirements of a traditional brick and mortar restaurant.”

This location will continue to have wait staff, ensuring the same dining experience as the old flagship location.

News of the Capital Circle location's closure circulated on Facebook after the company shared a sneak peek of the expansion offerings, with one guest writing, “You had us in the beer garden! Look forward to it.”

Another user commented: “Oh no! What are we supposed to do in the meantime? There really is no place like this… and this second location has been hinted at for ages… we are sad!”

The Capital Circle location is open until 10 p.m. on Friday, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
