TRENTON – We call it a year of rebuilding.

The capital has brought the previously successful Pride festival back to the city center, but was unable to attract nearly as many people as in 2019.

But what the crowd lacked in numbers, it made up for in enthusiasm and joy, celebrating all facets of the LGBTQIA+ community in and around Trenton.

Moderator Jackie Dupree interacted with attendees, emphasizing acceptance and inclusion, and hugging police officers and city officials.

Mayor Reed Gusciora, Parks and Recreation Director Maria Richardson, and City Councilors Teska Frisby and Jennifer Williams addressed the small crowd, thanking the event organizers and the groups who came to hand out information and treats.

A brief rain shower provided a brief respite from the afternoon heat, but did not put an end to the music and dancing.

Several shops along Warren Street that are normally closed on Saturdays opened for the festival and many of them participated by offering samples or giving away goods to visitors.
