Two Montana inmates charged with attempted murder after attacking prison guards

Two Montana inmates, 20-year-old Myron Scott Goes Ahead and 18-year-old Ashtin Zant Glen, were charged with attempted murder on Tuesday after allegedly attacking two correctional officers at the Yellowstone County Jail with improvised weapons.

The attack occurred Saturday night for no reason and was captured by surveillance cameras, according to Sheriff Mike Linder, who declined to release the footage.

During the attack, one of the inmates repeatedly stabbed an officer in the back of the head with an improvised knife, causing severe bleeding. The injured officer was treated at a hospital and released later that night. He is expected to make a full recovery, the sheriff said. The two inmates appeared in court via video from jail and pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Hojae Chung of the Yellowstone County District Attorney's Office revealed details of the attack during Tuesday's hearing. Judge Bradley Kneeland set bail for Goes Ahead at $1 million and for Glen at $500,000. Both face additional weapons charges and could be sentenced to life in prison if found guilty.

Goes Ahead was already in custody awaiting trial on two counts of murder in connection with a shooting in Billings last year that left a man and a toddler dead. Authorities allege Goes Ahead and another person stole ammunition from a sporting goods store and then fired several shots at the victims' home. The toddler suffocated after the man carrying her was shot and fell on top of the child.

Glen was charged with attempted murder, among other charges, for an incident that occurred last year when he allegedly shot and wounded a man during a shootout and later fired at officers as he fled the scene.
