Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest withdraws Outfitter and Guide environmental assessment project

– The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest has withdrawn its Outfitters and Guides Environmental Impact Assessment project after carefully reviewing feedback received through public participation, including suggestions and concerns regarding the administration of the existing Outfitters and Guides program.

The forest will soon begin developing a new environmental analysis to equip and direct activities under the National Environmental Policy Act. This new project will only review the issuance of permits to existing permit holders; it will not establish a service day pool in the forest.

Interested parties can view project details and subscribe to project bulletins and updates at

Applications for new special use permits for the establishment and management of the forest are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to environmental analysis in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest would like to thank everyone for their engagement and thoughtful comments on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Outfitter and Guide Environmental Impact Assessment.
