Missing toddler from Massachusetts found in northern Alabama

ETOWAH COUNTY, Alabama (WIAT) – A one-year-old Massachusetts child was found in the care of his mother in northern Alabama following a suspected kidnapping.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Fall River Police issued a police bulletin Friday regarding a missing toddler who is in danger.

According to FRPD, 22-year-old Genezza Packett was visiting her son, who lives in the care of her aunt, on Thursday. Packett said she took her child to a nearby Dunkin' Donuts but never returned.

Further investigation revealed that Packett and the child were traveling south toward Mississippi. Relevant information was forwarded to police at ALEA's Highway Patrol Division.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, ALEA officers located the vehicle on Interstate 59 in Etowah County near Attalla. A traffic stop was conducted and the child was safely recovered. A criminal complaint will be filed against Packett by the Massachusetts FRPD.

“I commend the exceptional cooperation and communication of the intelligence analysts at our Fusion Center and our law enforcement officers and our counterparts in other states for their critical efforts in the safe recovery of a missing one-year-old child,” ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said in a press release. “Their devotion to duty and quick thinking led to the safe recovery of the child, which exemplifies the true spirit of law enforcement and the need for information sharing with local and state law enforcement partners.”

Since the investigation is still ongoing, no further information is available.
