Severe storms are possible in Massachusetts for part of the weekend

TODAY IS GOING TO BE A FANTASTIC DAY. THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK. COME TODAY. THIS WEEKEND. THINGS WILL START TO CHANGE. ENJOY TODAY. LOTS OF SUNSHINE, LOW HUMIDITY, THAT'S ALL YOU CAN WANT FOR. A LIGHT BREEZE FROM THE EAST. PICTURESQUE AS WE LOOKING TOWARDS SATURDAY, A MAINLY DRY DAY. SATURDAY NIGHT WILL LEAD INTO SUNDAY, THEN WE EXPECT RAIN AND THE HUMIDITY WILL START TO RISE QUITE A LOT AS WELL. SOME RAIN AND STORMS, ESPECIALLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THEN WE'RE EXPECTING SOME MORE STORMS AND SOME OF THOSE STORMS COULD BE A LITTLE STRONGER. Speaking of strong storms, Wednesday night we had quite a few strong storms, one of which spawned a tornado. You can see it traveled over four miles. An EF 1 tornado with around 100 mph. That was its peak. It moved from Lincoln, Rhode Island, all the way to North Attleboro, Massachusetts before it started to dissipate. But today we're not seeing any strong storms at all. A pleasant day, dew points around 4 degrees. Yesterday was a little light, light humidity out there, today we've had dew points around 15 degrees. You don't have to worry about the humidity. THIS HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM IS KEEPING US DRY NOT ONLY TODAY, BUT TOMORROW AS WELL. THEN YOU CAN SEE THE RAIN DIRECTLY WEST OF US. AT THE MOMENT YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT BUT YOU NEED TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON IT ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR SUNDAY WHERE THE TEMPERATURE IS CURRENTLY IN THE 60S. WE HAD A VERY NICE SUNRISE THIS MORNING AT 510. THE LIGHT WIND IS ALWAYS COMING NORTHWEST AT 9KM PER HOUR. THE WIND WILL CHANGE TO EASTWEST LATER TODAY. YOU WILL SEE THE TEMPERATURES WELL RISING TO 21-25, A LITTLE COOLER THAN AVERAGE BUT I'M SURE THERE WILL BE NO COMPLAINT EXCEPT FOR CAPE AND ISLANDS. A LITTLE COOLER. YOU'LL HAVE 21-25 TEMPERATURES, MAYBE EVEN 15-25 TEMPERATURES. THERE'S A LOT OF SUNSHINE TODAY AS WE HEAD TO THE EVENING HOURS. THEN THE CLOUDS WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE. WE'LL CALL YOUR SATURDAY A MIX OF SUNSHINE AND CLOUDS, BUT THERE'LL BE MORE CLOUDS THAN SUNSHINE AND THEN A FEW BLOWS OF RAIN TRYING TO WORK THEIR WAY IN FROM THE NORTHWEST. THEY'LL NOT COME UNTIL SATURDAY NIGHT AT LEAST. INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, AND THEN A FEW MORE SPOTS OF THUNDERSTORMS. INTO SUNDAY AFTERNOON. SO THE LOWER HUMIDITY WILL ONLY STAY FOR TODAY AND THE FIRST HALF OF OUR SATURDAY. THEN THAT WARM FRONT WILL START MOVING NORTH. THAT WILL RAISE OUR HUMIDITY QUITE A LOT. NIGHTTIME RAIN. WE HAVE THE QUIET COLD FRONT DIRECTLY NORTHWEST. IT WILL NOT MOVE THROUGH AT LEAST UNTIL ABOUT SUNDAY EVENING. SO IT'S BRINGING A QUITE A LOT OF RAIN AND STORMS, LOCALLY DROPS, POSSIBLY EVEN SOME FLOODING AREAS. AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME STRONG TO POSSIBLY SEVERE STORMS WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS IS TOP OF THE LIST IN TERMS OF CONCERNS. SO YOU CAN EXPECT A HUMID DAY ON SUNDAY. BUT AFTER THAT WE'LL BE BACK TO DRY CONDITIONS. SO TODAY COMES THE PICK OF THE WEEK. TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 25 AND 29 DEGREES EXCEPT ON THE CAPE AND THE ISLANDS. TOMORROW IT'S A LITTLE WARMER, CLOSER TO THE 27 DEGREES MARK WHERE WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOME RAIN BLOWS AND THEN SOME STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY. BUT THEN IT'S DRY WEDNESDAY THROUGH JULY 4TH. AJ PICK OF THE WEEK, GREEN TICK. TOP TEN, TOP TEN. YES. TOP TEN DAY. YES.

Severe storms are possible in Massachusetts for part of the weekend

Another round of potentially severe thunderstorms is possible in Massachusetts and New England on Sunday ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. After Friday's “Pick of the Week” of low humidity and plenty of sun, humidity will rise quickly this weekend. A cold front will slowly approach New England, bringing with it the ingredients for severe thunderstorms to move through on Sunday. A few showers will move in ahead of the more severe storms, but most of Saturday will bring rain-free weather. “On Saturday we'll call it a mix of clouds and sun, but there will be more clouds than sun,” StormTeam 5 meteorologist David Williams said. “(Showers) won't move in until Saturday night.” Isolated showers will linger through Sunday, but the threat of severe thunderstorms arrives later on Sunday. “Localized downpours, possibly even some flooding areas … and maybe some damaging winds are at the top of the list as far as fears go,” Williams said. StormTeam 5 is declaring Sunday and Impact Weather Day due to this risk for severe storms.

Another round of potentially severe thunderstorms is possible in Massachusetts and New England on Sunday ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

After Friday's Pick of the Week with low humidity and plenty of sun, humidity will quickly rise over the weekend. A cold front is slowly approaching New England, bringing with it the ingredients for severe thunderstorms to move through on Sunday.

There will be some showers before the heavier thunderstorms, but there will be no rain for most of Saturday.

“On Saturday we're talking about a mix of clouds and sun, but there will be more clouds than sun,” said David Williams, meteorologist for StormTeam 5. “(Showers) won't start until Saturday evening.”

Severe weather risk

There will be isolated rain showers through Sunday, but there is a risk of severe thunderstorms later on Sunday.

“Local rainfall, possibly even flooding in some areas … and potentially destructive winds are at the top of the list of fears,” Williams said.

Due to the threat of severe storms, StormTeam 5 is calling for Sunday and Impact Weather Day.
