Florida woman arrested for abortion fraud

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Port St. Lucie woman was arrested after turning herself in for knowingly submitting false applications for the Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Donella Harriel, 46, turned herself in to police on June 6. She is charged with five counts of misusing personal identification information and five counts of knowingly signing on behalf of another person to secure a polling location, according to an FDLE news release Friday.

Harriel filed 314 invalid abortion petitions in various districts across Florida, prompting authorities to investigate, the FDLE said.

She is being held in the Martin County Jail, where Attorney General Ashley Moody's Office of Statewide Prosecutors will handle the case, the press release said.

According to the press release, the FDLE has charged nine people with petition fraud since February. Four of them were charged with petition fraud related to the abortion initiative.
