NHC tracks rare tropical system in June

Low pressure system strengthens into tropical storm Beryl; first hurricane expected for the weekend

WE WOKE UP NICE AND DRY, AT LEAST FOR THE MOMENT. BUT THIS COULD BE COUPLED WITH VERY HOT CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA. YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED IT FELT A LITTLE SWEATIER OUTSIDE YESTERDAY. AND IT WILL BE THAT WAY FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEKEND. HIGHS FOR TODAY. NOT SO BAD RELATIVELY, BUT WHEN YOU TAKE HUMIDITY INTO ACCOUNT, IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, MOST AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES IN THE 80 TO MID-85 DEGREES RANGE. THE REST OF US AT 85 DEGREES, CLOSE TO 80 DEGREES. SO THAT'S EXACTLY WHERE WE SHOULD BE. AT THIS TIME OF YEAR. TOMORROW TEMPERATURES WILL BE A FEW DEGREES WARMER. BUT OVERALL, THIS WEEKEND, YOU'LL MOST OF ALL NOTICE THE MUCH NEEDED CHANCES OF RAIN IN THE FORECAST. WE REALLY HAVEN'T HAD A LOT OF RAIN IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS, SO THIS COULD BE VERY GOOD FOR US, BUT IT MAY AFFECT YOUR WEEKEND PLANS. BUT NOT ALL DAY. SO THAT'S THE GOOD NEWS: WHEN WE SET THE TIME FOR TODAY, WE'RE EXPECTED TO BE A LITTLE MORE CLOUDY AT TIMES. IT'S STILL LOOKS DRY UNTIL ABOUT LATE MORNING TO NOON. There could be a scattered shower or two, but it doesn't look like there will be much to do during that time frame. Scattered showers and even a few thunderstorms are possible around midday and early afternoon. But keep in mind the overall coverage, it won't be one of those days where everyone sees rain. It's very scattered, so your friends on the road might see a few showers and thunderstorms, but you might stay dry. SO THIS IS ONE OF THOSE DAYS WHERE WE'LL CONTINUE TO TRACK SOME SPOKEN RAIN AND STORMS THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A SIMILAR LINEUP UNTIL TOMORROW. BUT ALSO, ANY BIT OF RAIN THAT FALLS IS VERY HELPFUL. NOW WE'RE TRACKING THE TROPICS TO NOT MAKE THIS DISTURBANCE MOVE DIRECTLY TO THE YUCATAN PENINSULA, BUT IT WILL DISAPPEAR QUICKLY WHEN IT MAKES LANDFALL. NOW FURTHER IN THE ATLANTIC WE HAVE BERYL AND A SECONDARY SYSTEM FOLLOWING BERYL THAT ALSO HAS A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE OF DEVELOPING. So let's take a closer look at Tropical Storm Beryl, which is moving west at 21 miles per hour. The latest warning, which was just issued moments ago, indicates sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. Really good circulation. This is a healthy storm. This is the type of storm you would generally see in August. And we're seeing the perfect conditions right now to see it develop even further over the next few days. Probably a Category 2 hurricane early Monday morning, maintaining that strength until about Wednesday. And then it will finally start to weaken. CLOSER EVERY DAY, MORE SLIGHTLY. WE'LL HAVE TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON IT, BUT FOR NOW IT'S NOT A DANGER TO THE U.S. BUT OF COURSE THESE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS WILL FEEL THE IMPACTS IN THE COMING DAYS. 40 LOOKS LIKE THERE WILL BE SHORT SHOWERS AND STORMS TODAY AND TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES WILL BE UNDER 30S AGAIN ALL WEEKEND, AND THEN AS WE GO ON INTO NEXT WEEK, WE CANNOT COMPLETELY RULE OUT THE POSSIBILITY OF BRIEF SHOWERS AND STORMS. REALLY, ANY TIME ON EVERY SINGLE DAY OF NEXT WEEK. BUT DRY IN MOST CASES AND FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. SLIM CHANCE OF A LITTLE MORE COVERAGE
