The 2022 NBA offseason brought a lot of changes for the Utah Jazz, where they traded two franchise players in Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, and they have not recovered since then.

We can't pretend the Jazz haven't built a bright future for themselves; they've acquired an incredible amount of future draft picks and Lauri Markkanen, the centerpiece of the Mitchell trade, has become an All-Star and the new cornerstone of the team's franchise.

But two years after signing the Finnish sharpshooter, there is now talk that the Jazz could move on from the NBA's “Most Improved Player” starting in the 2022-23 season.

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Jazz are open to trade offers for Markkanen this offseason. While he noted that they would prefer to keep Markkanen, they are at least considering their options. However, Utah would have to offer “a lot, a lot” to agree to a trade.

Woj adds that the Jazz wanted to aggressively sign players around Markkanen this summer, but after failing in their attempt to get Mikal Bridges, teams are now wondering if Utah could be among the sellers.

Markkanen, a 27-year-old, 7-foot-4 power forward, could fit on pretty much any team in the NBA. His outstanding shooting makes him a deadly scoring option and he moves well for a player his size. Plus, there aren't many power forwards as big as him.

His contract runs through the 2024-25 season and he is currently eligible to sign an extension that will likely be a max contract. Still, he will only have an $18 million salary next season, which should make it easier to find a transfer attractive to Utah, but as Woj mentioned, that would likely require a huge pool of picks and/or players returning to Utah.
