A man who escaped from a Northern California prison over a decade ago was tracked down and arrested in New York City.

According to a press release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the suspect is a man named Eduardo Hernandez.

Hernandez was sentenced to 13 years in prison on July 6, 2005 in Los Angeles County for auto theft with the use of a firearm.

Although he had already served about six and a half years of his sentence, Hernandez left the Delta Conservation Camp in Suisun City, Solano County, on November 15, 2011.

After more than 13 years on the run, Hernandez was arrested in New York City on May 20, the CDCR said. The exact circumstances under which investigators tracked him down were not disclosed.

He is expected to be extradited to California, where his case will be forwarded to the Solano County District Attorney, who will face possible escape charges.

Ninety-nine percent of all people who have left an adult facility, camp or community-based program in California without permission since 1977 have been caught, the CDCR said.
