The Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued a warning that a foreign visitor may be infected with measles.

According to DPH, the person traveled by public transportation via Boston to Amsterdam on Saturday, June 22 while in an infectious state.

According to DPH, this person may have been exposed to the virus on the Dartmouth Coach bus route in Hanover, NH at 11:40 a.m. From Dartmouth College to Boston, MA, arriving at Logan Airport (Boston, MA) at around 2:40 p.m.

Then from 14:40 to 20:40 in Terminal E on flight KLM6016 from Boston to Amsterdam, departing from Gate E5

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services also confirmed that the person was in the following areas:

• 20-22 June: Dartmouth College Campus, Hanover
• June 20 – 22: The Hanover Inn, 2 E Wheelock Street, Hanover
• June 20, 3 p.m.: Hanover Scoops, 57 S Main Street, Hanover
• June 20-22: Lou's Restaurant and Bakery, 30 S Main Street, Hanover (one meal at unknown date and time)

According to the Ministry of Health, measles spreads more easily than almost any other disease.

Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes several days before a rash appears.

Authorities advise anyone showing symptoms to call their doctor before visiting a doctor's office, clinic or emergency room.

“Measles is a highly contagious, airborne disease that is experiencing a rise in cases and outbreaks around the world,” said Public Health Commissioner Dr. Robbie Goldstein. “People who are not vaccinated are at higher risk of infection. The best way to protect yourself from this disease is to get vaccinated.”
