The CEA's communications department is nationally recognized

CEA Communications Director Nancy Andrews was named PR Practitioner of the Year.

HARTFORD, Connecticut – The Connecticut Education Association’s Communications Department took home seven awards recognizing the department’s excellence in communications at a national conference in Philadelphia on June 23.

According to a CEA press release, the communications department was honored at the State Education Association Communicators' annual conference. The CEA, the largest teachers union in Connecticut, was recognized in several categories, including special events, podcasts, publications, opinion/editorials and social media campaigns.

CEA Communications Director Nancy Andrews also received the Bill Guy Award for Excellence in Public Relations, which recognized her as public relations practitioner of the year, the release said. Andrews, who lives in Wethersfield, has been with the CEA for 13 years and has held her current position since 2016. She is the first Connecticut recipient of the national title in 35 years, according to the release.

CEA President Kate Dias said in the press release that the group is extremely proud of the work it does and that none of it would be possible without the team of communications experts.

“From large-scale social media outreach to grassroots organizing, Nancy and her team are the driving force behind so many of our successes on behalf of Connecticut's dedicated public school educators. It is extremely gratifying to see their work recognized as exemplary by their peers across the country,” Dias said in the press release.

Dias added that while members do the important work of teaching and mentoring students in the classroom, “CEA is out there making sure its message resonates in their communities and that teachers' voices are heard wherever decisions about education are made.”

– Award of Excellence for the commemorative events for the 175th anniversary of the CEA

-Award of Excellence for the educational podcast “Two T's in a Pod”

– Award for Excellence in Member Materials

-Award for Excellence in Opinion/Editorial Writing

-Award for the CEA Consultant magazine

-Award for the social media campaign “WEP/GPO Must Go”

-Bill Guy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Public Relations
