Congressman from Rhode Island campaigns for President Biden in the Granite State

Rep. Gabe Amo (D-RI) was in the Granite State this weekend to campaign for President Joe Biden, just days after the first presidential debate. His visit followed criticism from some in the Democratic Party who called Biden's performance against former President Donald Trump lackluster and further suggested it was time for him to step down before the November election. “I think it's very clear that the president has not had a great debate. He said so himself. But something that's been a common thread throughout Joe Biden's history is that he gets knocked down and he gets back up, so I think we need to focus on the two clear options that we have here,” Amo said. “We have someone who is committed to making sure every American gets a fair shot, who is committed to protecting democracy and our freedoms, and then we have the dark, dark vision of former President Trump's campaign,” he added. Amo said he stands behind the president and believes it is clear what voters need to do in November. “I've seen President Joe Biden in the Oval Office. I worked with him when I was a senior White House staffer. He knows how to do this job. He knows how to tell the truth and he knows how to bring out the best in the American people,” Amo said. “That's why I'm in New Hampshire, and that's why I'm going to continue to support our efforts to defeat former President Donald Trump.” Amo said he hopes to come back to New Hampshire to help elect Democrats — though he would not reveal whether he has ever considered returning to the Granite State as a presidential candidate one day.

Rep. Gabe Amo (D-RI) was in the Granite State this weekend to campaign for President Joe Biden, just days after the first presidential debate.

His visit followed criticism from some members of the Democratic Party who called Biden's performance against former President Donald Trump lackluster and further suggested that it was time for him to step down before the November election.

“I think it's very clear that the president has not had a great debate. He said so himself. But something that's been a common thread throughout Joe Biden's history is that he gets knocked down and he comes back up. So I think we need to focus on the two clear alternatives that we have here,” Amo said.

“We have someone who is committed to ensuring every American gets a fair chance, who is committed to protecting democracy and our freedoms, and then we have the grim, grim vision of former President Trump's campaign,” he added.

Amo said he stands behind the president and believes it is clear what voters must do in November.

“I've seen President Joe Biden in the Oval Office. I worked with him when I was a senior White House staffer. He knows how to do this job. He knows how to tell the truth and he knows how to bring out the best in the American people,” Amo said. “That's why I'm in New Hampshire and that's why I'll continue to support our efforts to defeat former President Donald Trump.”

Amos said he hopes to return to New Hampshire to help elect the Democrats, although he declined to say whether he has ever considered returning to the Granite State one day as a presidential candidate.
