According to the CDC in Maine, a flu-related death in a child has been reported for the first time this season

The Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported a child died of the flu here in Maine. The Maine CDC announced the death in a news release Friday, saying the child tested positive for influenza B Victoria. This is the only flu-related childhood death reported for the 2023-2024 season, according to the Maine CDC. Influenza is prevalent year-round, but is more prevalent from early October to mid-May. The Maine CDC did not provide further details, but said doctors should recommend annual flu vaccination for all children 6 months and older who have no contraindications, and should consider flu testing and treatment any time of year for patients with respiratory symptoms.
