Sinkhole opens on busy Massachusetts highway, blocking southbound lanes

MARY, YOU'RE SHAUN. WE'RE ON 24 SOUTH, JUST AFTER THE 139 MACHINE. THAT'S THE EXIT FOR IKEA. IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THIS AREA, LOOK AT THIS TRAFFIC. THERE'S A PARKING LOT ON 24 SOUTH AND IT'S BEEN THERE FOR HOURS. THIS TRAFFIC STRETCHES FOR MILES. WE OURSELVES WERE SITTING IN IT FOR OVER AN HOUR, AROUND 4 PM. IF YOU LOOK AHEAD, YOU'LL SEE SOME FLASHING YELLOW LIGHTS. THAT'S MASSDOT. WE WERE JUST UP THERE NEAR THE WORK ZONE AND WE TAKEN THIS VIDEO. THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH THE DANGER HOLE THAT YOU MENTIONED. IT'S MORE THAN TWO FEET DEEP. IT'S ABOUT A DRIVEWAY WIDE. AND IT'S FORCING MASSDOT TO CLOSED THE TWO RIGHT LANES OF THE HIGHWAY. THAT MEANS ALL TRAFFIC IS FORCED INTO THE LEFT PASSING LANE. AT LAST CHECK, MASSDOT SEEMED TO BE FILLIN' THE DROOP, BUT IT'S NOT CLEAR HOW LONG THAT MIGHT LAST. YOUR BEST CHANCE IS TO FIND ANOTHER ROUTE. SKIP 24 SOUTH BETWEEN 93 AND THE STOUGHTON AREA, EXACTLY. THE STATE POLICE OFFICER WE TALKED TO ON SITE A FEW MINUTES AGO TOLD US IT SEEMS LIKE NO ONE WAS Caught IN THE DROHL. HE HAS NO REPORTS OF DAMAGE TO VEHICLES, YOU KNOW. So it seems that voters were able to get around it until Massdot came on the scene. We are on 24 South in
