These eight beaches in New Jersey are actually free

It's that time of year when you think about where to put your beach badge if you've already bought one. Or where to buy one if you don't have one yet.

Or maybe this is the summer you decide not to pay to go to the beach. After all, New Jersey is the only state that charges for use of a natural resource that should be free for all.

So I looked around and tried to put together a list of a few beaches in the state that are actually free. Some of them are more well-known than others, and some of them might involve quite a drive for you.

Depending on where you live, there's nothing better than going to a New Jersey beach without putting your hand in your pocket.

Steel Pier – Atlantic City, New Jersey

Atlantic City

Atlantic City's beaches are famous, and for good reason. In addition to the huge stretches of sand, there are casinos, restaurants, shopping, concerts, and a beautiful boardwalk.

You can also surf, kayak, fish and windsurf here.

Cape May State Point Park is a national park with 16 state parks and 18 state parks.

This place is super relaxed with its freshwater meadows, the Cape May Lighthouse and a quiet, open beach.

It is ideal for a quiet stroll and bird watching.

Corson's Inlet State Park | Ocean City

Since 1969, this area has been preserved naturally and beautifully. Here you can enjoy hiking, boating, fishing and crabbing. Locals also enjoy canoeing and kayaking.

Keansburg Beach

This beach offers scenic views of the Manhattan skyline and also has an amusement park and a water park – perfect for a full day.

Strathmere

Strathmere Beach is great for surfing, fishing and hiking. The beach in Upper Township is known for its magnificent Victorian homes.

Union Beach

Perfect for strolling along the bay and bird watching in the salt marshes, Union Beach in Monmouth County is a peaceful place to relax.

Wildwood + North Wildwood

A trip to Wildwood is a must. With over five miles of beach, there is plenty of space for volleyball, Frisbee, and soccer.

The promenade is teeming with rides, restaurants, bars and shops.

Wildwood Crest

Wildwood Crest is another gem in Cape May County. It is perfect for swimming, sailing, jet skiing and fishing.

The sunsets are breathtaking and the atmosphere is super family friendly.

So there you have it – eight great beaches in New Jersey where you can enjoy the sun and sand for free. Grab your sunscreen, pack a lunch and head to one of these beautiful spots.
