Mountain House will become California's newest city on July 1

On July 1, Mountain House will become California's newest city after voters approved a ballot initiative in March.

The community in San Joaquin County, which has a population of 30,000, is incorporated into the city.

According to LAFCO documents, the area was officially recorded at the time of the 2020 census, the last time
Mountain House was home to 24,499 residents, today the population is estimated to be 27,032 in 2023, an increase of nearly 3,000 residents since 2020.

  • Fire protection: Fire and EMS services are managed by a combination of service providers. Fire and EMS services (fire department and EMS) have been managed by contract with the French Camp McKinley Fire District (FCMFD), also called the Mountain House Fire Department (MHFD), since September 13, 2015. Prior to that date, contracted fire services were managed by the Tracy Rural Fire Protection District (TRFPD – by contract with the City of Tracy through the South County Fire Authority). The CFA expects the contract with the FCMFD to continue. The resolution reflects that the liaison between the MHCSD and FCMFD will be assigned to the new City of Mountain House.
  • Prosecution: Law enforcement is handled by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
(SJCOSO). SJCOSO currently provides Mountain House with six full-time patrol officers and one sergeant funded by the MHCSD; this number will be increased in 2022 with the hiring of another full-time deputy. Additional law enforcement services are provided by the deputies assigned to Beat 8, a “beat area” that includes Mountain House and the adjacent unincorporated county area. Investigative and all other law enforcement support services are provided by the SJCOSO. Beat 8, investigative services, and other support services are funded by the County of San Joaquin. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has jurisdiction over all traffic-related matters that occur in the unincorporated areas of the state, including Mountain House. Specific to Mountain House, the CHP is responsible for enforcing traffic laws under the California Highway Code, investigating traffic accidents, investigating vehicle thefts from the road, and responding to parking and other traffic complaints. As a law enforcement agency, the CHP also assists other local and state agencies when requested for general law enforcement and traffic control. MHCSD contracts with the CHP to supplement the services provided by the SJCOSO. MHCSD currently receives animal control services through the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, which provides the service under a contract with the City of Stockton. The CFA handles all law enforcement services contracts between MHCSD and law enforcement agencies.
Law enforcement agencies are assigned to the new town of Mountain House.

Mountain House is located 9 miles from the town of Byron (12 minutes drive) and approximately 16 miles from the town of Brentwood (24 minutes).

In March, voters in Mountain House voted to incorporate into a city with 90.81% approval. In 2011, Jurupa Valley was the last city to incorporate.
