South Carolina man killed in crash involving overturned pickup truck, officials say

A South Carolina man was killed in a crash involving his pickup truck over the weekend, officials said.

Wade Wyndham Jr., a 25-year-old resident of Moncks Corner, died Saturday in an incident that Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell called an accident.

According to Lance Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle crash occurred around 1:25 a.m. on U.S. 52 in the Moncks Corner area.

Wyndham was driving a 2018 Toyota pickup truck west on U.S. 52 and near the intersection with U.S. 17 Alternate, the truck went off the right side of the road, Pye said. The pickup truck went around a curve and overturned, and Wyndham died, Pye said.

Pye said Wyndham was the only person in the pickup and no other injuries were reported.

There was no information about whether Wyndham was wearing a seatbelt.

Information on why the pickup truck left the road was not available, but the accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol and the coroner's office.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, at least 447 people have died on South Carolina roads through June 23 in 2024. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, according to DPS.

According to DPS data, at least 15 people will be killed in traffic accidents in Berkeley County in 2024.
