Longtime Connecticut radio host announces retirement

For nearly three decades, Renee DiNino's voice was a staple on Connecticut's airwaves. During that time, DiNino has lent her talents most notably to Hartford's The River 105.9 WHCN, where she hosted her signature midday slot, Acoustic Sunday Mornings, and other slots on the station.

Last week, DiNino announced her retirement from the station after spending nearly 20 years with The River and its parent company iHeartRadio. Her last show was on June 30. “I am eternally grateful for the incredible journey and friendships,” DiNino said in a Facebook post.

In addition to his work as a presenter, DiNino also served as Director of Community Affairs and Community Programming for iHeartMedia in Connecticut.

To coincide with her departure, the company threw a farewell party for her, which also featured “The Voice” winner and Connecticut native Javier Colon. “The attention, care and time they put in was incredible and the guests who came were very special. And thanks to my pups and Javier for the serenade,” DiNino wrote.

Her profile on The River states that DiNino, who has lived in Connecticut her entire life, has had an interest in becoming a DJ since middle school and grew up listening to WHCN. DiNino has received several humanitarian awards and serves on several charity boards and committees, including Kenway's Cause, Connecticut FoodShare, Operation Fuel, Special Olympics Connecticut, and Autism Speaks.

“Renee has done an amazing job in her nearly two decades as Midday Host on The River,” Joey Brooks, senior vice president of programming for iHeartMedia Connecticut, said in a statement. “Her commitment to the community is unmatched and she has helped raise millions of dollars to help the people of Connecticut and beyond.”
