Rider rescued after fall near West Yellowstone | Bozeman News

Below is a press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Service:

WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. – On June 28, 2024 at 5:53 p.m., the West Yellowstone Police Department dispatch center received a 911 call from a group on a guided horseback ride after one of their riders fell. The injured rider fell from his horse, hit his head, and was dragged a short distance by the horse. The reporting individual stated that due to the rider's injuries, the group felt it was best for the patient to remain in place and requested medical attention. The patient was located 8 miles west of West Yellowstone, Montana, near the Buttermilk Trailhead.

Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue (GCSSAR) volunteers from the West Yellowstone Department, Hebgen Basin Rural Fire District, and officers from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office responded to the call for assistance. It was determined that the best and most efficient way for responders to respond would be to utilize a side-by-side utility vehicle. Members of the Hebgen Basin Rural Fire arrived at the patient's location using side-by-side vehicles and rendered medical aid at the scene. The patient was transported from the scene by side-by-side vehicle to a Hebgen Basin ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. The patient was later transported to Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center for further treatment.

Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer would like to thank the riders for remaining calm, keeping the patient in place and providing accurate coordinates so that rescuers could respond quickly and efficiently.
