28-year-old Massachusetts woman got lost on New Hampshire hiking trail after losing her glasses

A 28-year-old Massachusetts woman became lost on a hiking trail at Mount Major in New Hampshire after losing her glasses over a cliff, New Hampshire Fish and Game said.

At around 6 p.m. on Saturday, officials were notified that a hiker was in distress and was off the trail at Mount Major. Using GPS coordinates, rescue workers were dispatched to find the woman. About an hour later, they found the 28-year-old, identified as Grace Diehl of Cambridge, in the woods about 120 meters from the Blue Trail.

Officials said Diehl's glasses fell off a cliff. When she “climbed down to get them,” she couldn't find them. She then tried to get back on the trail, but realized she was suddenly on a different path. At that point, officials said, she called for help.

“New Hampshire Fish and Game wants to remind hikers to always be prepared and plan for the unexpected,” officials said in a statement.
