Man from Bismarck dies after accident south of Minot – InForum

MINOT – A Bismarck man died shortly after a plane crash that occurred Sunday morning, June 30, four miles south of Minot.

The 68-year-old was driving a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander southbound on U.S. Highway 83 at around 11:08 a.m. when he slowed down to check on a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder. A 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also traveling southbound on the highway, struck the Mitsubishi, according to a North Dakota Highway Patrol press release.

The Mitsubishi came to rest on the shoulder of the road while the Jeep came to rest in the center ditch. The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to Trinity Hospital in Minot, where he eventually died.

Both Geoffrey Vannerson, the 36-year-old man from Underwood who was driving the Jeep, and a 63-year-old woman from Orland, California, who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi, suffered minor injuries.

All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.

Charges against Vannerson are pending the outcome of the investigation into the crash.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
