Rain relief hits Ohio, helps crops

Ohio experienced a break in the heat last week and most of the state received much needed rains. 

According to the latest Crop Progress and Conditions report from the USDA, corn is rated 66 percent good to excellent with 3 percent silking. Soybeans are ​rated ​63 percent good to excellent, with 12 percent blooming.

Winter wheat is ​49 percent harvested and ​96 percent mature, with a ​72 percent good to excellent rating. 

The second cutting of alfalfa is 31​ percent complete, and the first hay cutting is 95 percent complete.

Topsoil moisture is 55 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is rated 60 percent adequate to surplus
