SeaWorld Orlando's Penguin Trek opens soon for exciting experiences for the whole family

Orlando's theme parks have gravity-defying roller coasters for adults that use G-force, while the kids' lands have miniature roller coasters for the little ones.

It is harder to find rides that both children and adults can enjoy. But SeaWorldOrlando The newest roller coaster tries to find a middle ground for families – exciting enough for adults, but at the same time the ultimate roller coaster for younger visitors.

Penguin Trek, which has a 42-inch minimum height requirement, opens for pass previews on Tuesday and to the general public on July 7.

“That’s something that I think this park has been missing for a long time,” said Conner CarrCorporate executive for rides and engineering for the Orlando-based company during the media preview on Monday.

“When we designed this attraction, we took a step back. You never want to build the same thing twice. … Mako brings height and speed. … Pipeline offers a unique surfing experience. Kraken is the classic roller coaster. But we felt it was missing a family experience and something that people could do together.”

Penguin Trek feels like a mini Mako, a smooth ride. With a ride time of just over two minutes, the ride reaches speeds of up to 70 km/h and has two starts along the 900+ meter track. The over-the-shoulder lap bar makes passengers feel less constrained, so they are not trapped in their seat.

The theme of the trip is based on Antarctic. Ice and penguins are the stars of the show, and after the ride there is an animal exhibit waiting to be explored.

The best part: The queue is air-conditioned and located indoors. The roller coaster itself starts indoors and then continues outside.

Penguin Trek replaces the trackless Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, which closed in 2020. The shell of the original attraction is still there. For example, the entry area of Penguin Trek was the former final room.

Penguin Trek is one of several new attractions debuting at Orlando theme parks this summer.

Already open in Disney World is Tiana's Bayou Adventurea quirky, atmospheric ride featuring Disney's first black princess that replaced Splash Mountain. The child-friendly DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios is also in operation and offers families new shows, paddling pools and climbing areas where the younger ones can have fun.
