Louisiana man arrested in Arizona for murder of Ashley Barnes

Police officials confirmed that a suspect arrested Saturday in Winslow, Arizona, was wanted for the rape and murder of a Louisiana teenager.

Arizona state authorities assisted in the arrest of Montrell Donell Holmes, who was suspected of killing 14-year-old Ashley Barnes.

In a Facebook post from Bastrop Police, officers said they launched a homicide investigation after discovering a body in the woods that was later identified as Barnes.

Officials said a suspect named Holmes was arrested in connection with the case.

On Saturday, U.S. Marshals Service officials said their Flagstaff office received a request from the Marshals Service's Violent Offender Task Force for the Western District of Louisiana asking them to assist in locating and arresting Holmes.

Officials said he was wanted for the murder and rape of Barnes.

Officers from the Marshals Service's Flagstaff Task Force, in conjunction with Flagstaff Police and the Department of Public Safety, tracked down and arrested Holmes using cell tower pings. He was arrested in Winslow, near Interstate 40 and North Park Drive.

Officials said Holmes was awaiting transport back to the Western District of Louisiana to face charges. Bastrop police were still investigating the killing.
