Orlando now closed, Toronto reopens – Church News

While one temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in North America is closing for extensive renovations, another temple has been announced to reopen after renovations later this year.

The Orlando Florida Temple is now closed for operations, 30 years after its dedication in 1994. The First Presidency announced in February 2024 that the Orlando House of the Lord would close that month. Dates for completion, open house, and rededication will be announced at a later date.

Latter-day Saints in the Orlando Temple District are encouraged to visit other temples during the closure. The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple, dedicated in 2014, will be the only temple in the state remaining in operation for the next five months. The Tallahassee Florida Temple is scheduled to be dedicated in December. The dedication and open house for that temple were announced Monday, July 1, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

An update also posted on ChurchofJesusChrist.org on Monday said the Toronto Ontario Temple is scheduled to reopen in December 2024. In May 2023, the First Presidency announced that the Toronto Temple would close for renovations in October of that year.

In addition to the temples in Orlando and Toronto, the following seven houses of the Lord are closed for renovations:

Just as with the construction of new temples, every effort is made to expedite the renovation of temples. Sometimes, for various reasons, adjustments may be necessary in the completion and rededication of a project.

A renovated temple was rededicated in 2024—the Manti Utah Temple, on April 21 by President Russell M. Nelson.
