City of Tallahassee increases security after $1 million theft

It's been nearly five months since the city lost $1 million in a “cybercrime” incident, and while the city has not released any updates on the investigation, it said it has updated its records.

While the investigation is ongoing, the issue was raised at the last City Commission by Commissioner Jeremy Matlow, who asked if there was any news or public information that could be shared.

After consulting with City Attorney Amy Toman, Mayor John Dailey responded to Matlow by reminding him that the investigation is ongoing. The investigation is being conducted by the Tallahassee Police Department in cooperation with the U.S. Secret Service.

Commissioner Curtis Richardson wanted to know whether the situation had prompted the city to take new measures “to prevent this from happening in the future.”
