Ex-trooper accuses Michigan State Police of sex discrimination, retaliation

A former state trooper is suing the Michigan State Police, alleging officials denied career opportunities based on her gender, refused to investigate her claims of physical and sexual assault as well as launched unfounded criminal charges against her.

The complaint filed Thursday in Eaton County’s 56th Circuit Court also alleges MSP officials permitted a hostile work environment.

Megan Valerie Moryc, the former state trooper leveling the allegations, is seeking a jury trial and more than $25,000 in retribution, plus costs of litigation including interest, attorney and witness fees.

In the complaint, Moryc, who joined the state police in 2016 and worked through its Lakeview post, said she was denied a promotion in her position three times, despite outranking candidates selected for the promotion.
