Senate Secretary Announces Death of Judiciary Committee Chief of Staff …

The chief of staff of the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee has died suddenly, according to a statement sent to members of the chamber Monday afternoon (July 1, 2024).

Details of the death of Andrew “Andy” Fiffick were not immediately available.

“We were shocked to learn of the death of Judiciary Committee Chief of Staff Andy Fiffick this afternoon,” said an email from the Senate Secretary Jeff Gossett noted. “Please pray for Andy's family.”

Fiffick, 47, of Columbia, South Carolina, is a graduate of the University of South Carolina – and its law school. He worked as an attorney for the SC Department of Revenue (SCDOR), the South Carolina House Committee on Labor, Trade and Industry, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and most recently for the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“Andy is known for his knowledge and understanding of regulatory law, insurance law and employment law, as well as his deep understanding of the legislative process,” said a 2015 resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives honoring him. “His legal skills and integrity have earned him an enviable reputation as a House staffer. Those who have worked with him will tell you that he is always ready to help others and is always more than willing to go the extra mile to find a solution to a problem. In addition, he always acts in a professional manner and is genuinely concerned for the well-being of others.”
