Cyberstalker found guilty in Anchorage

Rolando Hernandez-Zemora

Rolando Hernandez-Zemora was found guilty by a jury on Friday of stalking a woman online for four years.

According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Hernandez-Zemora, now 40, tracked her victim between 2016 and 2020 using tracking apps, text messages, video calls and other means to control her life.

In 2020, the harassment also spread to some of the victim's co-workers and family members and included threats of violence.

Hernandez-Zemora continued to harass the victim even after she obtained a restraining order. Due to his threats, the victim's workplace was placed on lockdown for several days from late April to early May 2020. Hernandez-Zemora was arrested in late May 2020 after evading police for two days.

“I want to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward, and we hope this conviction is the first step toward resolution and justice for those affected by this case,” said U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker. “Mr. Hernandez-Zemora is a serious danger to the community, as evidenced by his desire to harm the victim, her colleagues, and her family. My office will continue to seek justice against perpetrators who threaten violence.”

“The defendant's disturbing pattern of behavior included threats of violence and cyberstalking harassment, causing significant fear of harm and emotional distress,” said Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Day of the FBI's Anchorage Field Office. “This type of behavior will not be tolerated. Today's sentence underscores our commitment to holding those who commit such crimes accountable.”

The FBI Anchorage field office and the Anchorage Police Department investigated the case.
