Results from June

Just as ugly as expected, with a losing streak in May and the team in serious danger of spiraling after losing five of its last six games, including a home loss to the lowly Marlins, and then going down in a World Series rematch in Texas. With injuries piling up, it seemed like the beating just wouldn't stop. Especially with Jordan Montgomery on the mound, hohoho. Because the rotation as a whole went 6-11 with a 5.39 ERA that month, and it looked like the team would once again follow a postseason appearance with a disappointing season the next year. This was very clearly reflected in the results in late May.

The top tier has virtually disappeared, with only 4% reaching more than 6% confidence. On opening day, just two months earlier, ninety-two percent were in these categories, a clear indication that fan confidence is as fragile as a butterfly. The poll average fell by more than a full point, falling from 4.50 to 3.41. That's the lowest since early August 2022, when the Diamondbacks were 45-56. It's also the lowest in early June since the grim days of 2021, when it was under two for three straight months as Arizona flirted with a franchise-worst season. I don't think we're quite in that state now, so that's something!

Survey in July

It may not necessarily feel like it, but the D-backs had their best month of the season so far in June. They've been in and out of a wild-card spot, although it's fair to say the schedule certainly helped them, and there's an argument they should have picked up a few more wins. The injury situation remained in flux: We got Geraldo Perdomo back but lost Gabriel Moreno, and Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez show no signs of returning to the rotation anytime soon. It feels like this team has a ten-game streak in it somewhere. Harder to say if it'll be a winning streak or a losing streak, but…
